I have found only two photos of the USS McGinty on the Internet. Both are copyright US Navy and can be found at www.navsource.org. One of those photos is used in the masthead on each page of this site. No photos of the McGinty were listed at the Naval Historical Center, although their search engine did not seem to be functioning at the time of this writing.

The following are of my father or taken by him while onboard in 1961-62. Links are provided to larger sized images.

Lou Bailey in Japan, 1962On the back of the photo is written "Taken in Otaru, Japan May 7, 1962. Moustache is there, but hard to see."

Note: Otaru is on the island of Hokkaido, 30km west of Sapporo.

journal-photo-118x200Photo from Oregon Journal newspaper of me being pushed down the pier by my mother as the McGinty leaves for redeployment in Oct. 1961. Caption reads:

TEARS MARKED PARTINGS as destroyer escort McGinty pulled away from familiar pier on Swan Island, heading downriver for year's active federal service and berth at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Here unidentified wife and young son of McGinty crew member leave dock area while ship maneuvers in distance. Wives, mothers, sweethearts and friends jammed area for farewells.
